Welcome to Art with Mrs. Porter
Hello, I am Mrs. Porter!
I am teaching Art 1 and Art 2 here at Tison. This is my 2nd year here at Tison and all I can say is WOW, Weatherford is awesome! Glad to be here and so glad to share art within this community!
Art is so much more than just an elective! Art is shown to increase students critical thinking, problem solving, growth in creativity and further develop communication! Additionally, there will be opportunities for participation in art contests and art shows helping your student connect to their community and look at a larger world.
We will apply conceptual thinking through hands-on activities. We will be using many different types of media such as watercolor, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, markers, oil pastel, clay and more, all on a variety of surfaces like sulphite paper, newsprint, watercolor paper, clay or canvas! To make this happen, art supplies are necessary!
The school works hard to furnish all non-consumable tools and equipment- scissors, computers/software, water, clay tools, hot glue guns, books, printers, ink and much more.
New, this year in alignment with Weatherford High school and Hall Middle School, students will need to pay a $25 annual art fee for consumable supplies. The school can purchase such items in bulk for exceptional prices- saving money and still having high quality supplies. The art fee ensures your student will have quality supplies to learn with. The only supplies we ask for you to bring are the ones your student will use independently on a daily basis, their sketchbook, pencils, and erasers. The $25 dollar art fee will cover the other necessary supplies.
If you have anything you feel is important to share about your learner, please feel free to reach out to me! My email is [email protected] or if you are an in person kind of person, my conference is 3rd period.
I have a class welcome paper that will come home with all students to help answer any other questions. It goes over class expectations, guidelines, grades and more. Please, sign it and return the signed portion.
