World Geography
Welcome to Tison and to my Social Studies class!  Our goal is to make Social Studies fun and exciting! In 6th grade social studies, we learn about world geography. This will be the study of all people, places, and cultures from around the world. We will be studying current events related to the subject matter. This allows students to reflect by writing about history as it happens.  We sometimes have small group, as well as large group discussions on the current event.

We use notebooks to keep up with our own maps, vocabulary, notes, and supplies. I thoroughly enjoy these course topics, and the students appreciate learning about all of the amazing places and people on our planet.

Technology may be used daily in this class. All assignments will be physically covered and handed out in class, including for those students who are absent, and many will be posted, as well as with possible additional information, in Google Classroom. Assignments will be done in a variety of ways, which will help the learning process, and make it interesting for the students.  There will also be some hands-on projects to complete in class.

Students will study the following units:

1st Semester:

  • Thinking Like A Geographer: The World's Geographic Patterns
  • Freedom For All: The United States and Canada
  • We Are Family: Europe
  • A Legacy of Colonialism: Latin America
