6th Grade Art

Welcome to Mr. Golightly’s Art Class 2023-24 School Year

I have been teaching art for 30 years! How did that happen? This is my 12th year at Tison Middle School.

I have been married to my wife for 21 years and we have two children. My daughter is a Senior and my son is starting the 7th grade this year. They go to Brock where we live.

I want my class to be a safe nurturing environment for all students. Art is often the one class student can come each day and tap into their creative side and gives them an opportunity to express their feelings and thoughts in a creative way.

My room is structured and has a daily routine that stays pretty much the same each day even though we will work with a variety of art media.

Some of the media we might work in are drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, pen and ink and pastel.

My beginning art classes start with the Elements of Art and dive into how artist use the Elements to create their own original works. In short, we start with the basics and work our way up to a finished product.

You will receive minimum of 10 grades each 6th weeks, 2 of those grades will be major grades for completed final projects.

We have the opportunity to participate in a variety of contest both locally with the Annual Christmas Card Contest, Parker County Art Association, and with other school in our area at the Lone Star 8 Art Contest in the Spring.

All artwork will have the opportunity to be displayed in our hallways. Artwork is kept in class for an end of school year portfolio project. Students may ask permission to take pictures of their art work to show parents.

Parents, I will go over these same class expectations with your child in class but I want you to have a copy of what is expected from your child each day in my class. I prefer email but sometimes a phone call is necessary. For any habitual disruptions and noncompliance of the school’s expectations I will usually have your student call you during their class and we will see if together we can get things worked out. I find this method usually works well.

BE KIND and Respectful to All.

They are expected to participate.

Work from bell to bell.

Follow instruction.

Use classroom supplies and our classroom respectfully.

No food unless for medical reasons. Water is permissible. No other drinks.

Absolutely no technology unless taking a picture of their work with permission from me.
