Mr. Ash SAS Math/Math Inclusion

My name is Michael Ash, and I am a special education teacher at Joe Tison Middle School in the Weatherford ISD. This is my second year at Tison, what a wonderful group of people. I teach SAS Math and Math Inclusion. This is my fourteenth year working in public education, and my twelfth year in special education.

Let me begin with my history and how I got into education. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Rehabilitation. I chose this field because I grew up with a disability. I had to live with the trials, tribulations, and the prejudices of having a disability even though I was a fully functional person. I wanted to become a rehabilitation professional to serve individuals who have physical, mental, and emotional disabilities and help them become productive and active citizens. I have the compassion to work others with disabilities and help them find a way toward more independence. During my last year of working for my B.S. degree, I volunteered at an elementary school to work as a teacher’s assistant in a self-contained classroom. It was at this point that I chose to work in education.

Through my experience I have seen both what is right and what is wrong with special education. I have worked in many school settings and taught multiple students with various disabilities. I am a well-seasoned special education teacher, and I strive to help my students grow. I have earned my Masters in Educational Leadership. I figure this way I may have a greater impact on the special needs’ community. I want to help more special needs students reach independence through learning.
